U : ' Mr. Cash well's Paper. A very un and a very critical audience assembled last night at Society Hall t listen to the paper read by Mr. David Cash well before the Historical j and Scientific Society. We would be glad to present this paper in full, but our space will not admit. It was certainly of a yery interesting nature and commanded tha utmost attention of all who were present. The paper real by Mr. Cash well was a careful attempt to establish the fact that the interest of this and other countries sustaining business relations with thia country, had its origin here, in the Ui i ted States and that Buch origin war to be found in the political corruptions of our officials of every grade; that this corrup. tion received sanction and encouragement from the highest auchorities of the Gov ernment, pervading and affecting injur ious! j all communities and almost all classes of people, entailing upon business and industrial interests all the evils which we all well know of depression ia enter prise, lack of employment and suffering ot the poor, increased and increasing arrogaooe and tndiflarence of large hold ers of property and oon taxable, interest bearing bands, relations of dependence. subsisting between capital and labor and commerce, the benefits afforded bj legis lation principally in favor of politicians, capitalists and monopolies, to the extent of robbing the people of their material righes of hindering and preventing the pursuit of happiness, and of placing in peril the government itself. He urged upon all the necessity of learning thoroughly their relations and responsibilities to the gov ernment and to act in the interest of humanity in efforts to rescue the govern ment from the evils which threatens its financial overthrow and destruction. We cannot add more here than a meagre synopsis of the evils named in the paper, which wh9n enumera'ed are really appalling to contemplate. The paper suggests the remedy in detail : That the organic and statutory laws of the States and Federal government should be made to conform to justice and humanity restraining public vice and protecting pub lie virtue ; that all government reform be scrupulously provided for, and enforced with1 absolute inflexibility. That reform be first applied to the makers and administrators of law, in cluding all official and clerical depart ments and persons; that the pay of Con gressmen be fixed at $3,000 psr annum, and that they forfeit the day's pay for each day of absence, except when unavoid ably prevented from appearing for doty; that memb rs of Congress and Stato Legislatures be deprived of citizenship for life for voting for any maasure for reward or in the hopa of reward. That the President of the United States receive $30,000 per annum, without per quisitea or appropriation, and tnat be and all State Executives be divested of the veto and pardoning power. I That all nontaxable, interest-beariDg bonds of the' government be paid as they fall due, with some new intereiUbear- ing issue of equal value with gold. That all the railroads in the United States should be owned and conducted by the general government in the interest of the general public; that freights and fares should be so equalized as to avoid unjust discriminations. The paper pats these suggestions in a strong light, and while we do not agree with all that Mr. Cash well has advanced, we must siy that he has presented his views in an able and masterly exposition The celebrated Zeb Vkuca and other Cooking and Heating Stoves at the lo wr st cah pnes at Jacobi s Hardware Depot. t Happy Hearts. Mr. S. Hanstein, of this city, was mar ried in New York, on last Thursday nighty to Mbs Clara Wolff, of that city. The happy couple arrived here last night on the 9:53 train from the North, and were met at the depot by a delegation of friends, who escorted them to the residence of the groom, on Market, between Fifth and Sixth streets, where a reception was held. Air. Davis' Lecture. It will not be forgotten that Hon. Geo. Divis is to lecture to morrow evening in the Opera House, for the benefit of the Historical and Scientific Society. Mr Davis tus selected as his theme M A Study in Colonial History," and his ability to handle it in a masterly and entertaining manner Is well-known to all. The prob abilities are that the Opera House will be 1 well filled to morrow evening.
